Botkeeper is a bookkeeping provider that uses custom-built software, AI, and senior accountants to automate bookkeeping, prepare financials, and deliver a centralized financial hub for business owners. Botkeeper was founded in 2015 by [1]Enrico Palmerino, along with Louie Balasny, Andrew Gauthier, and Angelina DeLago. Its products and services aim to provide services for accurate bookkeeping, pre-accounting, as well as tools for tracking integrated financial/non-financial data, running on-demand reports, and secure document storage.

History

Botkeeper was founded by [2]Enrico Palmerino, along with Louie Balasny, Andrew Gauthier, and Angelina DeLago in the city of Boston, Massachusetts in 2015.

The company grew from the small founding group to over 200 employees by 2019. While Botkeeper's original model focused on providing bookkeeping services via human-augmented intelligence targeting small businesses, in 2018 they also launched a program geared toward accounting firms according to [3]Accounting Today . The Accounting Partner model was structured to help Accounting firms contend with the rising cloud-based firms offering all-in-one bookkeeping and tax work.

Botkeeper garnered a large expansion in their client base in 2018 after raising a $4.5 million seed round with investors including Ignition Partners’ Kellan Carter, Atlantis Technologies’ CEO Tom Biggins, former Microsoft CFO John Connors; 500 Startups partner Matthew Johnson; Trevor Kienzle of Correlation Ventures; and Talla founder Rob May, an early Botkeeper client. This round was followed by an [4]$18 million in Series A funding in November of 2019 led by Greycroft and Gradient Ventures.

Software and services

Botkeeper provides tech-enabled services for bookkeeping, financial reporting, document storage, and customizable dashboards. Botkeeper has integration features for QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and several others. Additionally, Botkeeper offers an Accounting Partner program, providing a secure financial hub on which accounting firms, or fractional CFOs, are able to manage their client base communications, while Botkeeper provides the bookkeeping services to firm's clients. The Accounting Partner Program can also be white-labeled on behalf of the Partner firm. Botkeeper promotes their Human Augmented Intelligence methodology through their own marketing and thought leadership, and have been called "force multipliers" by influencers in the accounting space.
