Bovifimicola is a genus of anaerobic bacteria in the family Lachnospiraceae. It is monotypic, containing the single species Bovifimicola ammoniilytica.[1]
Taxonomy
The type strain of B. ammoniilytica is Sanger_97, also deposited as DSM 102166, CCUG 68796 and JCM 37190. It was isolated from the faeces of a healthy person in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.[2]
Name
The name Bovifimicola is derived from the Latin words bos, meaning cattle, fimum, meaning dung, and the suffix -cola, meaning an inhabitant. It refers to the occurrence of the bacterium in cattle feces, although its type strain was isolated from human feces.[1][3] The species name ammoniilytica refers to its predicted ability to incorporate ammonia into glutamate.[3]
