Bra d'Or Award
The Bra d'Or Award (BDA) is presented by the Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) as part of their annual Tom Hendry Awards, which is a national celebration of excellence in Canadian playwriting. The BDA is unique amongst the awards because it is not for writing, and it has been administered by PGC's Women's Caucus since 2006, pre-dating the Tom Hendry Awards.[1] While PGC Women's Caucus members nominate the award's recipients, since an award overhaul in 2018, the entirety of PGC's membership votes for the recipient now.[2] The award is bestowed upon a person or team for the amplification and support of women playwrights in Canada.
