Brady D. Lund
Brady D. Lund is an American information scientist and academic whose research focuses on the ethical, societal, and practical implications of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).[1] He is a faculty member in the Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas and co-director of the Computational Humanities and Information Literacy Lab (CHILL).[2] Lund earned a Ph.D. in Library and Information Management from Emporia State University.
Dr. Lund has authored over 150 publications, including notable books and peer-reviewed articles on topics such as cybersecurity, blockchain, ethics of AI, AI in libraries, and AI and data literacy.[3][4][5] Two of his papers - "Chatting about ChatGPT: how may AI and GPT impact academia and libraries?" and "ChatGPT and a new academic reality: Artificial Intelligence‐written research papers and the ethics of the large language models in scholarly publishing" - have been cited over 2500 times since 2023. These works are frequently referenced in bibliometric analyses related to AI's integration into academic and library settings.[6][7][8][9][10] Lund was listed among the top 2% of most-cited researchers worldwide in 2023 and 2024, based on citation metrics compiled by Elsevier and Stanford University.[11]
In 2024, Lund was noted by Retraction Watch for coining the term "bothorship," referring to AI-generated authorship in academic publications and the ethical issues surrounding it.[12] His work has also been cited in trade and academic press, including American Libraries Magazine, Lucidea, and PressReader.
