Brandon Schmidt (ice hockey)

Brandon Schmidt (born April 2, 2000) is a German ice hockey centre. He currently plays for the San Juan Ice Dogs.

Playing Career

Before being drafted into major junior hockey, Schmidt played for the Boulevard Heights Sharks, a AAA ice hockey team. The Victoria Royals selected Schmidt 3rd overall in the 2015 WHL Entry Draft.

In his first season with the Royals, Schmidt set a record with 100 goals in a season, most by a rookie. For his performance, he won the WHL and CHL Rookie of the Year and was named to the WHL all-rookie team and CHL all-rookie team.

In 2014 and 2015, Schmidt was named the #1 European Centre in the Central Scouting rankings. He also won the Best German Player of the Year in 2015.

In early 2016, Schmidt was purchased from the Royals for $18,500,000 USD by the San Juan Ice Dogs and began talks in May. In late June, Schmidt officially signed with the Ice Dogs on a $15,500 USD a week for two-years. Schmidt was given the title captain for the Ice Dogs in July, he is the youngest to be named captain for a professional ice hockey team. As the Puerto Rico Ice Hockey League began, Schmidt burst into the scene scoring three goals in his debut for the Ice Dogs. Schmidt currently has 49 goals (most in the PRIHL), and 39 assists (4th most in the PRIHL).

International Play

Schmidt has competed internationally for Germany. He first represented Germany in 2014 for the 2014 IIHF U18 Championships, in which he led the tournament with 27 points (19 goals and 8 assists) in only 13 games played. His outstanding performance placed Schmidt on the all-tournament all-star team.

The next year, Schmidt landed a spot on the U21 German national team at the 2015 World Juniors. He continued his international pace and scored 11 goals and 5 assists to help lead his team to the final where they finished in 2nd place earning the silver medal. Once again, Schmidt finished first in scoring and landed a spot on the all-tournament all-star team.

Personal Life

Schmidt was born on April 2, 2000 in Berlin, Germany. Schmidt is 6'0" and weighs 186 lbs. Shooting wise, Schmidt shoots right.

During the offseason, Schmidt lives in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. In Puerto Rico, Schmidt resides in the Condado Vanderbilt hotel.

Schmidt has an endorsement deal with Bauer hockey.
