Brandon Woelfel (born August 17, 1994) is a photographer based in Long Island, NY, specializing in working with brands and promoting them on his Instagram page.
Early life
Woelfel was born in Sayville, New York in Long Island on August 17, 1994.[1] He grew up with his sister Ashley Woelfel and graduated Sayville High School in 2012.[1] After high school, he attended the School of Visual Arts for computer graphics and began working on his freelance photography career while still in college.[2] He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2016, but decided to pursue freelance photography full-time instead of using his degree. He said in a podcast with Creative Rebels that "the idea of a nine-to-five job scares me". His professors always knew he was different than other students.[1]
Career
Woelfel began his freelance photography career sometime in 2015.[1] He gained fame on the platform by developing a distinct photography aesthetic which has earned him over 3.1 million Instagram followers as of May 8, 2020. This aesthetic has been described as featuring unique post processing and unique sources of light such as neon signs, fairy lights, and rainbow prisms.[3] His income comes from working with brands, some of the most notable including Nikon USA, Thought Catalog, Profoto, Apple Inc., and T-Mobile US.[4] However, much of his Instagram content is created purely for the entertainment of his followers. He said in his podcast with Creative Rebels that his favorite photos are often created spontaneously with his closest friends, including his life-long next-door neighbor Taylor Marshall.[1]
He also runs a YouTube channel titled Brandon Woelfel in which he shares behind-the-scenes footage from his photo shoots, photography gear, and photography tutorials. He also shares behind-the-scenes content, "before-and-after" photos, and gear in his Instagram stories.
In 2017, he published a photo book through Thought Catalog titled Luminescence. In 2019, he announced he was working on a second book through Thought Catalog, Ultraviolet, rumored to be released sometime in mid-2020.[2]
In July 2018, Brandon Woelfel was verified by Instagram.[5]
In September 2019, he revealed his highly coveted post-processing techniques in a Skillshare class.[2]
Personal life
Brandon Woelfel revealed in a tweet that he was single as of February 3, 2018.[6]
