"Brass Goggles" is a song by American steampunk folk rock band Steam Powered Giraffe from their 2009 album, Album One.[2] The song was written by Isabella "Bunny" Bennett.[3] The music video for the song is one of the group's most popular videos on their YouTube channel, along with the video for the song "Honeybee".[4]
Writing and recording[edit]
The song's lyrics describe part of the group's fictitious backstory, in which they are created by an inventor named Colonel Peter A. Walter. They later find themselves in the grassland savannas of Africa, using a steam-powered giraffe to fight a robotic elephant built by Walter's rival.[5]
Colonel Walter was shocked when he learned from the Nile:
Copper African elephants turning hostile.
So he built these wonderful automaton blokes,
And a very big steam powered giraffe what smokes.[2][6]
