Brazilian jiujitsu History
Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) was created by Royler Gracie, who began teaching his style of grappling in Brazil in the early 1960s. BJJ training consisted mainly of ground fighting techniques until the 1980s. However, in the 1990s, Royler passed down several of his moves and principles to Carlos Gracie Jr., an Olympic wrestler turned mixed martial artist. Carlos brought these principles to MMA fighters, and BJJ became popular around the world.
