Brazilians in Italy

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Brazilians in Italy number approximately 85,000[1] and form the largest immigrant group from Latin America in Italy and the fourth largest Brazilian community in Europe after only Portugal, France, and Spain. Nearly half of them live in Italy’s largest cities, either Rome or Milan.

Background

Most Brazilians have recent ancestors who hail from Portugal, Italy, Germany, and France. This qualifies most Brazilians being able to become citizens of the European Union. Most Brazilians in Italy obtain citizenship through their parents or grandparents who originally immigrated to Brazil. The reasons for immigrating to Italy are a stifling economy and corruption in Brazil[2].

Culture

Elements of Brazilian culture have been influenced by Italian culture, in terms of cuisine, language, and lifestyle. There are many Brazilian restaurants in Italy owned by Brazilian immigrants.

Notable people

Jose Altafini is a Brazilian-born, Italian footballer who played for both Brazil and Italy national teams. His parents are originally from Italy, and he spent most of his life in Italy for a career in football.
