Dr. Brendan John Wood Miles (born February 17, 1981) is a Canadian politician and family doctor. He is the Liberal Party of Canada Member of Parliament candidate for the riding of Calgary Heritage [1]
Background
Dr. Miles was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. After completing a Bachelor of Science, Master of Public Administration and Medical Doctorate at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, he returned to Calgary Heritage in 2010 to complete a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary. Dr. Miles is a family doctor at a Senior’s Assisted Living Facility in southwest Calgary, and a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Medicine.
Political Career and Advocacy
Dr. Miles began his political career with the Liberal Party of Canada with the Kingston and the Islands Riding Association, initially as a volunteer. After returning home to Calgary, Dr. Miles has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Calgary Heritage Federal Liberal Riding Association since its inception. He was nominated as the official Liberal candidate in Calgary Heritage in June 2015.
As a family doctor, Dr. Miles is actively involved in both clinical practice (primarily with older adults) and medical education. He is an advocate of patient-centered care and evidence-based policy, and has contributed to several research projects aimed at validating clinical practice guidelines.[2][3][4] Dr. Miles has indicated that his experience with patient-centered care and evidence-based policy are important influences of his political perspective.
