Brendan Reichs (/ˈraɪks/) lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife, son, and daughter. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2000 and The George Washington University School of Law in 2006.[1] He recently graduated from The Vermont College of Fine Arts where he received a MFA in Creative Writing for Children and Young Adults. He worked as a litigation attorney for three years before leaving to write full time. His first novels, the six-volume New York Times and international bestselling Virals series, were a collaboration with his mother, Kathy Reichs. He is also the author of the New York Times bestseller Nemesis and the sequels Genesis and Chrysalis. He is co-writing a middle grade series with author Ally Condie, titled The Darkdeep. He is on the Board of Directors for YALLFest and its sister festival, YALLWEST. [2] [3] [4] [5]

Novels[edit]

Brendan has written a six book young adult novel series beginning with the international and New York Times bestseller Virals. The Viral series is a spin-off series of Kathy Reichs’ Temperance Brennen series of adult mysteries, which is the basis for the FOX TV show Bones. The Virals books are centered around Temperance Brennen's grand-niece, Tory Brennan. Tory and her friends Hi, Shelton, and Ben accidentally contract an experimental virus from a wolfing and develop super-sensory powers which they use to solve forensic mysteries.

Brendan released his first solo young adult novel, Nemesis, in 2017, and it was an instant New York Times bestseller. Nemesis featured a girl named Min and a boy named Noah who have the same unique problem— since they were eight years old, every-other year on their birthdays they are murdered by the same man in a black suit. Except they don’t die like normal people, but reset, awakening in the woods outside their small Idaho home town without a scratch on them and all evidence of the crime erased. They must uncover the dark conspiracy surrounding their hometown and entire sophomore class that ultimately threatens all life on Earth.[6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]

The sequel to Nemesis, titled Genesis, was released on March 6,2018. Genesis continues the harrowing story of Min, Tack, Noah, and the rest of the Fire Lake sophomore class as they struggle to deal with the new environment they now find themselves inhabiting. There are no rules, and no societal norms to fall back on, so the characters are forced to work together, or battle, as they search for a way to survive in the face of total annihilation.[12] [13] [14] [15]

The third book in the Project Nemesis series, titled Chrysalis, will be released on March 3, 2019.

Brendan is currently writing a new middle-grade series with New York Times bestselling author Ally Condie called The Darkdeep. Four kids living in the Pacific Northwest find a hidden island containing a pond with a mysterious boathouse. Inside is a dark secret- a black, swirling well that, once entered, brings imaginings and fears into being. The Darkdeep was selected as an Indie Next Pick for Fall 2018. The first book in this series will be released on October 2, 2018.[16] [17] [18]

He is also a contributor to “The Carved Bear” — New Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, edited by Jonathan Maberry and forthcoming 2019.

Brendan has also taken part in WriteOut! and Cavalcade of Authors West as an educator.
