Brennan Lee Mulligan (born January 4, 1988) is an American comedian, writer, and tabletop game enthusiast. He is best known for his work with CollegeHumor, as a sketch writer / performer and as Game Master for their Dungeons & Dragons web series, Dimension 20, as well as writing the superhero webcomic Strong Female Protagonist alongside artist Molly Ostertag.

Early life and education[edit]

Mulligan grew up in the Hudson Valley region of New York.[1] He attended SUNY Ulster and studied screenwriting and philosophy, where he graduated in 2005. He later attended the School of Visual Arts (SVA), where he studied film, directing, and screenwriting, and graduated in 2009.[2]

Career[edit]

Mulligan began his career with The Wayfinder Experience in 2004, a LARP camp where he served as a producer and performer.[3] In 2012, Mulligan joined the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, as a performer and later coach.[4] Alongside artist Molly Ostertag, he started the webcomic Strong Female Protagonist, which was named one of io9's Best New and Short Webcomics of 2012.[5] He joined CollegeHumor as a writer and performer in 2017,[6] where he won a Webby award for his performance as the CEO of Tide.[7]

Mulligan is the Game Master for Dimension 20, a Dungeons & Dragons anthology actualplay series that was launched on CollegeHumor's subscription service, DROPOUT.[8][9] The series has brought in players from the world of tabletop roleplaying, including Matthew Mercer and Marisha Ray of Critical Role[10], the McElroy Brothers of The Adventure Zone[11], and Brian K. Murphy and Emily Axford of Not Another D&D Podcast.[12] Additionally, he hosts the video podcast Adventuring Academy, where he interviews prominent figures from the tabletop gaming space.[13]
