Brett Lieberman is an American business executive and former journalist. He co-owns My Pest Pros, a family-owned pest management company based in Vienna, Virginia, that serves Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.[1] He is also president of the Maryland State Pest Control Association (MSPCA) and sits on the board of the Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA).[2][3]

Early career and journalism

Lieberman began his journalism career at The Pottsville Republican, where he covered politics and government from January 1992 to April 1993. He went on to cover Congress for States News Service before joining Newhouse News Service as a Washington correspondent in 1995, a role he held until 2008. At Newhouse, he reported on national politics, government, business, and technology, with his stories distributed through major newspapers across the country.[4][5]

He also served as The Patriot-News's Washington correspondent, covering Pennsylvania politics. C-SPAN records list multiple on-air appearances from that period,[6] and during the 2008 primary season he appeared on PBS NewsHour to discuss voting dynamics in rural Pennsylvania.[7]

Iraq War embed

During the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Lieberman was embedded with a Marine unit. The U.S. military ended the embed after a dispute over one of his published reports. Both the Deseret News and the Poynter Institute covered the incident.[8][9]

2008 election coverage

In 2008, Lieberman covered the presidential election for The Forward, writing about campaign issues and Jewish voting blocs. His reporting ranged from an analysis of Israel as a campaign issue to profiles of outreach efforts targeting undecided Jewish voters in Ohio.[10][11][12][13]

Strategic communications

When Newhouse closed its Washington bureau in 2008, Lieberman moved into healthcare communications. He served as a spokesman for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and later became Director of Communications at CAQH.[14][15]

My Pest Pros

In 2013, Lieberman and his wife, Debra, co-founded My Pest Pros in Vienna, Virginia.[16][1] The company provides pest management services across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. In 2025, trade publication Pest Management Professional profiled Lieberman and the company, noting its community work including donated pest management services to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a nonprofit in Fairfax Station, Virginia.[17]

The company has been listed in Northern Virginia Magazine's Best Home Experts directory, including a 2024 recognition in the "Pest Control" category for its Vienna location.[18][19]

As a pest control industry spokesperson, Lieberman has appeared on WTTG (Fox 5 DC) in a segment about seasonal bug activity.[20][21]

Industry and civic involvement

Beyond his state association roles, Lieberman is active in the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), where he chaired the Marketing to Membership Committee in 2024–2025 and now serves as the committee's past chair.[22][23]

He also serves on the board of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce[24] and is a former participant in the McLean Business Forum, a BNI chapter.[25][26]

Education

Lieberman holds an MBA and an M.A. in Government from Johns Hopkins University and is a graduate of Boston University.[1]

Personal life

Lieberman lives in Vienna, Virginia, with his wife, Debra, who co-owns My Pest Pros.[1][27]
