Brett Maly (born October 1, 1972) is a Las Vegas Valley fine art appraiser best known as the art expert for the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, as featured on the History (U.S. TV channel) series Pawn Stars. Maly is the resident art appraiser for Art Encounter and makes frequent appearances on Pawn Stars to verify the authenticity and appraisal value for art brought in by the pawn shop's customers.[1]
Career
In 2004, Maly was certified as an appraiser through the University of California, Irvine’s Certification Program in Fine and Decorative Arts.[2] In addition to appraising fine art for collectors and institutions, Maly frequently appears as an art expert on radio and television. This includes a recurring role (since 2010) as the art expert for the hit show Pawn Stars, on the History Channel, where he has discussed everything from fine art valuation to its collection and preservation.
Notable appraisals
Other notable projects include his role in the 2012 unveiling of "Horse and Rider" by Leonardo da Vinci, the only three-dimensional sculpture in existence today attributable to the Renaissance Master.[3]
Author
In the Spring of 2014, Maly released his first book: The Pocket Picker—for Fine Art, a field guide to fine art procurement.[4] Rick Harrison, star of Pawn Stars and co-owner of the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, wrote the book’s foreword.
Personal life
Maly is married and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with his two children.
