Brett Nelson-Bond (born 25 June 1983) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Sydney Bears in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career[edit]

Nelson-Bond first played for the Sydney Bears of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2000, the inaugural season for the league.[1] He has continued to play for the Bears and has competed in every AIHL season since its founding.[1] Nelson-Bond's best season in terms of points was in 2006 when he finished the season with 17 points in his 26 games. The following seasons he failed to repeat his efforts in the 2006 season dropping under ten points for the first time in the 2008 season.[1] In 2011 Nelson-Bond was named alternate captain for the Bears. During the 2011 season his scoring also improved, recording 15 points in his 27 games of the season.[1]

Nelson-Bond was first called up to represent Australia in 2000 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2000 IIHF Asian Oceanic Junior U18 Championship being held in Changchun City, China. Australia finished fourth while Nelson-Bond finished with two goals in his three games.[2] Nelson-Bond again represented the national under-18 team the following year at the 2001 IIHF Asian Oceanic U18 Championship.[1] In 2002 Nelson-Bond earnt a call-up to represent the national senior team in the 2002 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Cape Town, South Africa. Australia finished fourth while Nelson-Bond recorded one goal and one assist for his five games.[3] The following year he again represented the national senior team at the World Championships and also was called up to compete in the national under-20 team at the 2003 IIHF World U20 Championship Division III tournament being held in Izmit, Turkey.[1][4] Nelson-Bond continued to play for the national senior team at the World Championships until 2007 where he made his last appearance for the national team at the 2007 IIHF World Championship Division II Group B tournament being held in Seoul, South Korea. Australia finished second behind the hosts South Korea while Nelson-Bond managed two assists in his four games at the tournament.[1][5]

Personal life[edit]

Nelson-Bond was born on 25 June 1983 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[1] He started playing ice hockey at the age of ten and states that when growing up Joe Sakic was a player who he considered his favourite.[6]
