Originally from the Western Australian city of Geraldton, Patten attended Christ Church Grammar School in Perth, graduating in 1988.[1] Patten shot to providence defeating Belgium's number 1 ranked Davis Cup Player and World number 69 in the first round of the Masters City of Fremantle Championships. Patten went to hold a 1 set to love lead 5 games to 4 servicing against Former French Open Singles semi finalist, world no: 39, Filip Dewulf before injuring his right hand and forfeiting.
Brett Patten attained the ITF O/40's Number 1 World doubles ranking on 23rd January, 2012. Patten went on to win 5 x ITF Australian O/35 Singles and 6 x O/35 Doubles championships.
