Brian Galligan

Brian Galligan (28 September 1945 – 14 December 2019) was an internationally esteemed expert and leader in the field of Political Science. Brian was a Professor in the Research School of Social Science at the Australian National University and since 1995 held a number of senior appointments at the University of Melbourne including Head of the Department of Political Science (2000 – 2004) and Founding Director of the Centre for Public Policy (1995 – 1999 and 2008 – 2009). Following his retirement in 2015, Brian was appointed Honorary Emeritus Professor in recognition of his outstanding and distinguished academic service.[1]

He is a graduate in Economics and Commerce from the University of Queensland, and has a Masters and PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

His books include Politics of the High Court and A Federal Republic.

In 1998 he was elected as Fellow to the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

Brian was awarded the Crisp Prize by the Australasian Political Studies Association (APSA) for distinction in research and publication

Brian was born in Dalby, Queensland in 1945
