Brian Satterwhite
Brian Satterwhite is an American film music composer, editor, writer, performer, radio host, and lecturer. He has composed original music for films, television, and video games.
Early life[edit]
Satterwhite was born July 30, 1974 in Beeville, Texas. In January 1995, Satterwhite attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated in December 1997 with a Bachelor of Music in film scoring and composition.[1]
He re-located to Austin, Texas soon after graduating. There, he founded Nuance Music, and began his composing career.

Films[edit]
Satterwhite has composed original music for over one-hundred-and-sixty short and feature films. His first projects were the short film Twinkle, Twinkle, and Kat Candler’s debut feature film Cicadas (2000), which won several awards including Best Dramatic Score at the Park City Music Festival. A few of his most well-known projects (scores) include the IMAX film Ride Around the World (2006), Artois the Goat (2009), Man on a Mission: Richard Garriott’s Road to the Stars (2010), Cell: The Web Series (2010), Sushi: The Global Catch (2011), Switch (2012), Killing Ed (2016), and The Conway Curve (2017).[2]
In 2013, Walt Disney Studios licensed two pieces from his score Cowboy Smoke (2008) for use in the film ''The Lone Ranger'', directed by Gore Verbinski.[citation needed]
He has also composed original music for the iPhone game Jay and Silent Bob: Let Us Dance! (2012).[citation needed]
Writing[edit]
Writing has been an important part of Satterwhite’s career in film. He has written the liner notes for CD soundtracks from several different record companies. He works closely with the major record label La-La Land Records, having written the liner notes for several of their CD soundtracks, including the Friday the 13th Part 1-VI box set, Child’s Play (1988), Batman: The Movie (1966), The Blob (1988), Smallville (2001–2011), Terra Nova (2011–2012),and Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993). For Mondo Records, he wrote the liner notes for Jurassic Park (1993), Black Swan (2010), Home Alone (1990), Alien (1979), The Fountain (2006, and Ratatouille (2007). He has also written the liner notes for the soundtracks No Retreat, No Surrender (1986) for Perseverance Records, Whispers in the Dark (1992), Stay Tuned (1992), and The Core (1993) for Intrada Records, and Sundown: A Vampire in Retreat (1989) for BSX Records.[3]

Satterwhite has also been an editor on several projects. He is credited as an editor for Killing Ed (2015), Double D (2014), The Polish Hotel (2012), Mission on Seven (2009), Quarter to Noon (2008), and Switch (2012).[2]
Performances[edit]
Satterwhite has hosted the radio show Film Score Focus on 89.5 KMFA since 2005. He has produced more than 600 hour-long episodes detailing different topics in film music. It airs once a week, Friday’s at 9pm.[2]
Additionally, Satterwhite has been commissioned four times by the Dallas Chamber Symphony to compose original scores for their silent film series. The first film was A Sailor-Made Man (1921). The chamber symphony premiered his score live to picture on November 13th, 2012, and it was nominated for a Jerry Goldsmith Award for Best Free Creation. The second film score, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919) premiered on February 26th, 2013. His score for the third film, Buster Keaton’s The Scarecrow (1920) premieredon November 19th, 2013. Finally, his score for Metropolis (1927) premiered on October 13, 2015. It was also nominated for a Jerry Goldsmith Award for Best Free Creation.[4]
Teaching[edit]
In January of 2012, Satterwhite was brought in to the University of Texas at Austin’s Radio-Television –Film department to teach a course on film music called Advanced Functions of Music in Film. (reference is KMFA). He teaches the course every other semester.[4]
