Brian Snedecor. (born in 1959) is an American politician from the state of Indiana serving as the 20th mayor of Hobart, Indiana. He took office on January 1, 2004, the first elected government office he has held. He is a member of the Republican Party. Snedecor won an unprecedented fourth term on November 3, 2019.[1]
Early life and education
Snedecor was born and raised in the Glen Park (Gary) neighborhood of Gary, Indiana
Career
Snedecor served as a police officer for 27 years. He served as the Hobart police chief for 4.5 years before being elected to mayor. Snedecor was elected as a Democrat for four consecutive terms,[2]
In 2008 Snedecor joined 7 Northwest Indiana mayors in endorsing Hillary Clinton for President.[3]
Snedecor made national headlines after switching parties from Democrat to Republican in August of 2020. Snedecor said “I must be true to my God, my family, myself and those that have supported and believed in me,”[4][5]
