Bridget Phetasy (born November 15, 1978) is an American writer, podcast host, and political commentator. Her work covers political polarization, addiction, religion, media fragmentation, and other topics. She is a writer and contributing editor for The Spectator[1] and has written for The Federalist (website)[2], Playboy magazine, Tablet (magazine)[3], Quillette[4], The Atlantic[5], and other outlets. She is also the host of the Weekly Dumpster Fire on YouTube and the Walk-Ins Welcome podcast.[6]

Early Life

Bridget Phetasy was born on November 15, 1978, to an Irish and Italian Catholic family. She is the oldest of five children. [7] During her childhood, she lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Minnesota. Her family moved around frequently. Her parents divorced when she was 12.[8] [6] She has written about being drugged and raped at 18 while she was living in Minnesota.[9] At 19, Phetasy attended rehab for heroin addiction and was able to quit using the drug. [6]

Later Life

Phetasy struggled with addiction to cocaine, alcohol, ecstasy, and marijuana until her mid-thirties. In 2005, she founded a greeting card and T-shirt company called Phetasy to describe "the sensation of when reality becomes parody and parody becomes reality".[7] The business ended, but Bridget adopted Phetasy as her surname.[7] Phetasy was a Playboy Advisor in Playboy Magazine and wrote the Sex and Dating Column.[10] She has appeared on the Reason podcast to discuss her path to sobriety and political polarization.[11] She did not vote in the 2020 election. [12]
