Brilliance is a film in development as of 2019 based on the novel of the same name by Marcus Sakey.

Plot[edit]

Federal agent Nick Cooper, a brilliant with great hunting gifts is drafted to hunt down a terrorist, another such brilliant who intends to start the civil war.

Development[edit]

On March 12, 2013, Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights to adapt Marcus Sakey’s novel Brillance with Joe Roth and Palak Patel were set to produce the film.[1] On February 5, 2014, Universal Pictures acquired the distribution rights and hired Julius Onah and David Koepp to direct the film and write the script, respectively.[2] In November 2018, Akiva Goldsman was confirmed to write and produce the film, and Shane Salerno will produce through The Story Factory.[3] On September 6, 2019, Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution of the film and Will Smith and James Lassiter will also produce the film through Overbrook Entertainment.[4]

Casting[edit]

On February 20, 2014, Will Smith was in talks to star in the film,[5] but on May 29, 2014, Smith dropped out.[6] On May 12, 2014, Noomi Rapace was in talks to star in the film.[7] On June 17, 2014, Jared Leto was in talks to replace Smith,[8] but dropped out to audition for Doctor Strange.[9] On September 6, 2019, Smith returned to the movie.[4]

Future[edit]

In November 2018, Goldsman was confirmed to write and produce the film adaptation of the sequels "A Better World," and "Written in Fire".[3]
