The British Game Alliance (BGA) is an organisation that promotes and develops the consumption of assured game meat, running an independent assurance scheme.[1] for shoots and game farms in the United Kingdom.
The British Game Alliance Shoot Standards cover the marketing of game and ethical issues, which relate to consumer confidence. The BGA regulate these standards through Lloyd's Register, the official auditing partner [2].
History:[edit]
The British Game Alliance was set-up in 2018 [3] as not-for-profit game meat marketing board and independent assurance scheme of shoots, game processors and game farms in the United Kingdom.
Shoot members of the British Game Alliance are independently audited by Lloyd's Register (formerly Acoura), to ensure they meet rigorous welfare and game handling standards.
In 2019, the British Game Alliance launched the Game Farm Audit scheme [4] with a pilot scheme, registering members from January 2020. The scheme is independently audited by Lloyd's Register and ensures BGA members can demonstrate traceability from ‘egg to plate.’
Operations:[edit]
The British Game Alliance's aims of Promote, Assure and Developing the consumption of game:
- To provide independent assurance of all game meat produced for human consumption, ensuring all producers of game meat, no matter how small the shooting operation, can participate in the assurance scheme.
- To support other UK countryside organisations in safeguarding the future of game shooting through the development of the British Game Alliance Shoot Standards
- Supporting producers of game meat and BGA member shoots with health services to develop the health and welfare of assured game meat.
- To promote game meat to the public, as a sustainable, assured source of protein through various campaigns such as Eat Wild, offering diverse and modern game recipes.
- To open new markets for assured game meat at home and overseas, increasing demand for a stable market.
