Bronwyn Ellis (born 8 March 1998), under the pseudonym Broen, is an English singer and songwriter from Bolton, Lancashire, England. She was a contestant at a "star spotting" talent event held at Bolton's Holiday Inn in June 2014.[1]
Career
Ellis began performing at theatre shows in Bolton in 2012. In February 2014, she applied for the Teen Star Singing Competition,[2] and auditioned at the X Factor Regional Finals that were held in Manchester, performing Demi Lovato's Give Your Heart A Break,[3] but was not successful.
In June 2014, at the age of sixteen, Ellis auditioned at a talent event run by Tiger Entertainment in her hometown, performing Jessie J's Casualty Of Love.[4] Anthony Costa of the band Blue praised her voice and appearance at the event. She and her brother had attempted to find a suitable stage name and settled on "Broen". She is considering training at a local college to be a mobile make-up therapist when she finishes secondary school, if her singing career is unsuccessful.[citation needed] Costa and the agent from Tiger Entertainment chose Ellis as the winner, and later in the month Ellis signed a record deal with Tiger Entertainment and began work recording her debut EP.
In July 2014, Ellis announced in an interview that she had begun working on material for her extended play to radio station Bolton FM.[5][better source needed][6][better source needed]
Bronwyn a.k.a. Broen, her upcoming debut EP, is to be released in the United Kingdom through Steel Tiger Records and Tiger Entertainment.[citation needed] Ellis had begun working with a songwriter and music producer not long after receiving the recording contract in June 2014.[1] On 27 December 2014, she said that she is willing to make sure that it is good enough before releasing it.[7][better source needed] She also said that her musical influences include The Carpenters, The 1975, The Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Paloma Faith, Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey, and Foxes (singer).[7]
