Brook Lynn (singer)
Brook Lynn (born Lynn Buitenhuis) is a singer and songwriter from Wilp, Netherlands. She gained wider recognition in 2026 as a contestant on the twenty-first season of the American television series America's Got Talent, where she advanced to the live quarterfinals.[1][2] During the quarterfinals, she performed her original song "Love Your Enemy".[3]
Early life
Lynn Buitenhuis grew up in Wilp, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. She developed an interest in singing as a child but initially avoided performing in front of others. At the age of sixteen, she began taking singing lessons and later attended the Podiumacademie in Almelo.[1][4]
RTL Boulevard later reported that Buitenhuis had long been reluctant to sing in front of others and began seriously developing her voice during her teenage years.[2]
Career
Early releases
Buitenhuis began releasing music under the stage name Brook Lynn in 2024. Her debut single, "Ashes", was a cover and received a dedicated review from Pop Passion, which discussed her vocal performance and the song's musical style.[5]
She subsequently released "Valerie" and "Back 2 Black" in 2024. In 2025, Brook Lynn released "EMPTY.", her first original single.[1] The song was also covered by Melodic Magazine.[6] A ballad version of "EMPTY." followed in January 2026.
Alongside her recorded music, Brook Lynn developed an audience through videos of her vocal performances on social media. Voorster Nieuws reported in May 2026 that her videos had accumulated millions of views and attracted attention outside the Netherlands.[4] In August 2026, the Dutch national newspaper De Telegraaf profiled Brook Lynn's development as a singer and progression to the live shows of America's Got Talent. The newspaper reported that producers of the show discovered her through singing videos posted on social media and subsequently invited her to audition in Los Angeles.[7]
America's Got Talent
In 2026, Brook Lynn participated in the twenty-first season of America's Got Talent. For her audition, she performed Billie Eilish's "The Greatest". Judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Mel B and Howie Mandel all voted yes, advancing her in the competition.[1][8]
She later performed Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" during the Judges' Callback Round. Vergara selected Brook Lynn to advance to the live quarterfinals.[9] Her advancement to the live shows received coverage from the Dutch regional newspaper De Stentor.[10]
During the first live quarterfinal on 18 August 2026, Brook Lynn performed an original song, "Love Your Enemy", which she wrote about her experiences during the competition.[3] The performance received positive comments from all four judges. Vergara praised Brook Lynn's performance and songwriting, Mel B praised her voice, and Mandel said he was proud of her for being candid about the difficulties she had experienced during the competition. Vergara and Cowell both compared the song to music from a James Bond film.[3]
Billboard also covered the performance, reporting that Vergara gave Brook Lynn a standing ovation and compared the song to music from a Bond film, while Cowell praised her decision to perform an original song rather than another cover.[11]
Brook Lynn was eliminated following the public vote and did not advance to the semifinals.[12][2]
Personal life
Brook Lynn has publicly discussed her experiences with social anxiety, which have also been the subject of coverage by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.[13]
In July 2026, she contributed a personal essay titled "When Anxiety Was Louder Than My Voice" to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). In the essay, she described experiencing social anxiety from a young age and said that it had previously caused her to avoid opportunities to perform.[14]
She wrote that her anxiety intensified around her America's Got Talent audition after she experienced difficulty with her voice during rehearsals, but that she ultimately chose to perform. Brook Lynn described the experience as changing her relationship with performing and said that she had learned to pursue her ambitions while continuing to experience anxiety.[14]
