Brooke Alexandra Mitchell (born March 8, 1996) is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Selbyville, Delaware, who was crowned Miss Delaware 2015. She competed for the Miss America 2016 title in September 2015.

Pageant career[edit]

Early pageants[edit]

Mitchell began entering beauty pageants at age 6, winning the title Little Miss Sussex County.[1] At age 13, Mitchell began competing for the Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen title.[2] At age 14, Mitchell was named Miss Capital's Outstanding Teen 2011.[3] In September 2011, she won the Miss New Castle County's Outstanding Teen 2012 title and placed fourth runner-up at the state pageant.[4][5] Mitchell was named Miss Diamond State's Outstanding Teen 2013 and won the Interview Award at the state competition.[5]

In 2014, Mitchell won the Miss Dover title then competed in the 2014 Miss Delaware pageant.[6] She was named was second runner-up to winner Amanda Longacre.[1] After Longacre was stripped of her title for not meeting contractual age requirements, Mitchell was advanced to be first runner-up to the new Miss Delaware 2014, Brittany Lewis.[7][8][9]

Miss Delaware 2015[edit]

On February 28, 2015, Mitchell was crowned Miss Milford 2015 which made her eligible to compete at the 2015 Miss Delaware pageant.[1][2] Entering the state pageant at Dover Downs in June 2015 as one of 11 finalists, Mitchell's competition talent was baton twirling to the DeBarge song "Rhythm of the Night".[10][11][12] Her platform is volunteerism.[10] Mitchell won the competition on Saturday, June 13, 2015, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Delaware titleholder Brittany Lewis.[13] As Miss Delaware, her activities include public appearances across the state.

Vying for Miss America 2016[edit]

Mitchell was Delaware's representative at the Miss America 2016 pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September 2015.[14][15] In the televised finale on September 13, 2015, she placed outside the Top 15 semi-finalists and was eliminated from competition. She was awarded a $3,000 scholarship prize as her state's representative.[16][17] In addition, Mitchell was awarded a $1,000 Non-Finalist Talent scholarship for her tap and twirl performance.[18]

Personal life and education[edit]

Mitchell is a native of Dagsboro, Delaware, and attended Indian River High School from 2011 through 2013. She transferred to Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, Delaware, and graduated in 2014. Her mother is Sandra Webster Mitchell. Mitchell is currently a student at Delaware Technical Community College where she studies elementary education.[10]
