Brooks Prumo Orchestra

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Brooks Prumo Orchestra is an American big band specializing in the dance-oriented swing style of the 1930s and 1940s.[1] It was formed by guitarist Brooks Prumo, who originally learned to play guitar so he could dance to swing-era music. According to an interview on Texas Public Radio, he realized there were no local big bands in Austin playing the tunes he loved—so he started one himself.[2]

Background

Prumo began working on swing guitar after middle school, gradually honing his skills.[2] Over roughly a decade, the group evolved into the Brooks Prumo Orchestra, performing in cities such as Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas.[2]

Recordings

Pass the Bounce (2017)

The band’s first album, Pass the Bounce, was recorded live in the studio.[2]

This Year’s Kisses (2020)

In 2020, the orchestra released This Year’s Kisses, which includes arrangements of swing-era pieces such as “Castle Rock,” “Don’t Be That Way,” “Broadway,” and the titular track, “This Year’s Kisses.”[1]

Band members

Both the Texas Public Radio segment and The Syncopated Times review mention bandleader Brooks Prumo on guitar, as well as a rotating lineup of swing musicians.[2][1]
