Brown ammonia

Brown ammonia[1] is syngas that starts with brown hydrogen as the chemical feedstock. Chemical synthesis is then identical to any of the industrial ammonia production methods, commonly a Haber process. Its name is from the brown coal it is derived from, which is a lower rank coal than others, e.g. anthracite.
Uses
Brown ammonia's uses are identical to typical industrial ammonia applications.
Challenges
Anecdotally, brown coal is mostly carbon so mitigation involves management of the single largest point source of CO
2[3].
Notes
- Hydrogen, with the prefix 'brown' has been colour coded in accordance with a convention where all varieties are carbon abated chemicals[4].
