Brownout is an 8-piece Latin funk band formed by members of Grupo Fantasma in 2004..[1] [2][3] [4] [5] [6][7]
Biography[edit]
Brownout, an offshoot of Grammy Award-winning Grupo Fantasma, is not just a side project. The mostly instrumental group has developed a sound of its own that evokes the music of WAR, Cymande, and Funkadelic. [7][8] They've won 3 Austin Music Awards and have performed at events such as Bonnaroo, High Sierra Music Festival, Pickathon, and FFFFest. [9] [10]
In 2013 the band released Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, a Black Sabbath cover album. [11] [12] It was inspired by their residency at an Austin club where they dedicated each week to a different artist. Their Black Sabbath shows were so well-received that they spurred two albums and a private concert for Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath fame himself. [13] [14][15] [16] [17]
