Bruce Mittman is an American business executive known for his leadership in the advertising and broadcasting industries. Mittman has made significant contributions to the media and advertising world with a career spanning over four decades. He is currently the CEO of Mittcom Advertising and Community Broadcasters. Mittman's work in the broadcasting industry earned him recognition as one of Radio's Top Leaders from 2018 to 2022.

Early Life and Education

Bruce Mittman was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised in Flushing. He later moved to Long Island, where he attended Jericho High School. Mittman pursued higher education in Boston, earning a degree in marketing from Northeastern University in 1972. He furthered his education at Northeastern, obtaining an MBA in 1983. Following his academic pursuits, Mittman embarked on a year-long journey, traveling overland through Europe, Africa, and Asia, and has since explored more than 40 countries.

Advertising Career

Mittman's advertising career began in 1973 when he joined Marvin & Leonard. He was pivotal in the initial branding efforts for Solomon ski bindings and Timberland footwear there. In 1978, he joined Arnold Worldwide as a senior vice president and stockholder, contributing to the growth of Fayva Shoes into a nationwide presence with over 700 stores. In the early 1990s, Mittman assumed the role of Director of Advertising and Marketing at the Interface Group. This company owned and operated Comdex Tradeshows, Sands Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas, and GWV Travel.

In 2003, Mittman founded Mittcom, a full-service advertising agency with more than 30 employees specializing in media planning, buying, creative development, and digital marketing. Under his leadership, Mittcom became one of the top advertising agencies in the Northeast, as recognized by the Boston Business Journal. The agency's client roster includes major brands such as Subaru of New England, PlayMonster, Needham Bank, American Home Shield, Spectra Medical Worldwide, and Global Partners.

Radio Career

Bruce Mittman's involvement in the radio industry began in 1982 when RKO General recruited him as the sales director. He led the efforts to launch the first talk radio station, WRKO, in Boston, which also broadcasted Red Sox and Celtics play-by-play. In 1985, Mittman purchased WICE in Providence, Rhode Island, and transformed it into a news talk station with comprehensive coverage of Providence college sports, including basketball and hockey. He later owned WWFX The Fox in Bangor, Maine, which achieved a remarkable 17 share.

From 1990 to 2001, Mittman was Vice President and General Manager of the WAAF Radio Network and Star 93.7 for CBS and Entercom. During his tenure, WAAF was recognized as America's #1 Rock station, and Mittman received acclaim as the best general manager by Radio & Records. In 2002, he became the President of the WFNX Radio Network, overseeing five stations in Boston, Rhode Island, Maine, and New Hampshire.

In 2006, Bruce Mittman co-founded Community Broadcasters with his partner, Jim Leven. The company rapidly expanded to encompass 45 signals with 35 separate formats in 8 markets and three states. Each station offered a website, streaming services, and broadcasting of play-by-play professional and college sports.

Personal Life

Bruce Mittman and his wife, Ellen, have been married for 45 years and have two children and seven grandchildren. His son, Andrew, owns and operates 1.21 Entertainment in Hollywood, California, while his daughter, Emily, resides in New Hampshire with her husband and five children. Mittman is a resident of Newton, Massachusetts.
