Bruce Roberts (Australian television presenter)
Bruce Roberts (born 1968) is an Australian television presenter and former actor.
Home and Away[edit]
From 1991 until 1994, Roberts played police officer Nick Parrish in the Seven Network's soap opera Home and Away.[1][2][3]
While working at Home and Away, Roberts participated in a number of publicity appearances, which included appearing in a TV Week Christmas-themed photo shoot with fellow Australian actors Simon Baker, Steve Jacobs, Gia Carides and Matthew Krok.[4]
In 1993, while playing Prince Charming in the Cambridge Corn Exchange pantomime production of Snow White, Roberts responded to criticism from Equity about the increasing presence of Australian actors from Home and Away and Neighbours in British pantomimes.[5] Roberts described the protests at "stupid" because Australia had tolerated "second-rate" English television and bad English actors touring the country, citing it as an example of a "colonial attitude".[5]
After leaving Home and Away, Roberts left Australia to live in the United Kingdom, marrying Olympic gymnast and sports presenter Suzanne Dando in 1996. After experiencing homesickness, Roberts returned to Australia in 1998, divorcing Dando in 2000.[6][7]
Roberts continued acting for a time, appearing in a 2002 episode of Seven Network drama Blue Heelers.[8]
WIN News[edit]
Roberts joined WIN Television in 2009 to present WIN News bulletins in Victoria from their Ballarat studios, following the resignation of long-serving presenter Denis Walter who moved to Melbourne radio station 3AW.[9]
In what was a controversial decision, Roberts was relocated to WIN Television's Wollongong studios in 2016 to read Victorian news bulletins from interstate, after the network closed its Ballarat studio.[10][11][12]
When WIN Television decided to also close their Hobart studio in 2018, Roberts is now also tasked with presenting the Tasmanian edition of WIN News from Wollongong.[13]
Roberts also occasionally presents the Canberra edition of WIN News and the national All Australian News program, which is broadcast across all four WIN Television stations, including WIN Peach, WIN Bold and Sky News on WIN.[14][15][16][17]
