The Grand Auglaize Bridge, also known as the Brumley Bridge, is a swinging bridge near Brumley, Missouri in Miller County, Missouri which was built in 1930–31. It was built to provide a crossing over the Grandglaize Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks after the construction of the Bagnell Dam across the Osage River formed the Lake of the Ozarks and raised the water level of what was formerly a tributary creek there. It has a 500 feet (150 m) swinging suspension span. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in October 2020.[2]

MODOT Missouri Department of Transportation
In October 2020, the nearby Mill Creek Bridge was found not to be National Register-eligible due to modifications, but the Grand Auglaize Bridge was accepted by the Missouri Department of Transportation and was formally listed in 2020.[3]
When the bridge was threatened with demolition, an organization named "Save the Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge" formed to compile history about the bridge and seek its preservation.[4][5]
In Peril
In August 2018, it was brought to the attention of the local residents that the Grand Auglaize Bridge historic swinging bridge located near Brumley, Missouri (built c/1930-31), was in danger of closing down due to an inspection conducted by Poepping, Stone, Bach & Associates, Inc. (PSBA) of Quincy, Illinois. According to this inspection, the historic bridge was considered to be in "Poor Condition”. A 5-ton weight limit was reduced to a 3-ton weight limit in 2017.
Soon, a grassroots campaign got underway to "Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge” by the local residents in the area. First on the agenda was to get this bridge listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which was successfully accomplished on October 8, 2020.
In January 2021, a new inspection was conducted by MODOT, which resulted in the permanent closure of this historic bridge, which spans the Grand Auglaize Creek, a tributary of Lake of the Ozarks. The Grand Auglaize Bridge was the last original swinging bridge in Missouri to carry vehicular traffic.
In February 2021, the grassroots campaign officially became a grassroots organization. "Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge” will continue to strive forward on our mission to restore and repair the historic bridge through grants and donations.
