Brussel Danst

Brussel danst is a free openair yearly dance battle organised by Muntpunt, on the Day of the Flemish Community.[1] In 2013, 4.000 visitors, participated in musical, dance and cultural activities. An open air afterparty is organised.[2] Brussel Danst will take place on Wednesday July 11th 2018.

Location[edit]

Brussel Danst takes place on Place de la Monnaie / Muntplein a pedestrian zone in the center of Brussels. In front of Operahouse La Monnaie. In the north Rue neuve. In the east, two parallel streets, Rue des Princes / Prinsesstraat and Rue de la Reine / Koninginstraat. In the south Rue des Frippiers / Kleerkoperstraat. In the west Centre de la Monnaie / Muntcentrum.

In the past the event was named 'Feest in Brussel’ and before that "De Gulden Ontsporing" in reference to the Battle of the Golden Spurs.[3]

"Inviting the Streets"

On June 24th 2016, Muntpunt collaborated with Freestyle O to organise a warm-up to Brussel Danst. A full four set was played by All Class, different crews took part in the open mic & open floor.

Dance Battle

The fourth edition took place on July 11th 2017[6] Approximately 100 dancers participated in the dance battle, judged by an international jury. 11,000 visitors participated in the event.

2017[edit]

"It’s Bigger than Hip Hop"

From July 2nd untill September 23rd Muntpunt toured Brussels with a mobile mini-library. Three times a week, the pop-up library stood in different locations in Brussels. Associating with different artists and crews, to organise workshops, events, debates. In light of "Yo. Brussels Hip-Hop Generations" in Bozar, a special Hiphop collection was put together in the library, consisting of books, documentaries, movies, music and art activities[2]
