Brysen Van Eck (born December 13, 1975) is a Yonkers, NY based meteorologist for News 12 Networks in the Hudson Valley. He is the weather anchor for the weekday morning editions of News 12 Hudson Valley and News 12 Westchester.

Career[edit]

A resident of Airmont, NY, Brysen has been working for News 12 Networks since 1999. He began at News 12 Traffic & Weather forecasting for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. In addition, Brysen has made numerous fill-in appearances over the years on News 12 Westchester, News 12 Long Island, News 12 Connecticut, and News 12 New Jersey. Before News 12, he worked at Connecticut Weather Center, where he provided forecasts for local radio stations, ski areas, and oil companies.

Education[edit]

He attended Cornell University, where he earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences & Meteorology, graduating in 1998.

Awards and accomplishments[edit]

In 2016 & 2008, Brysen was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Weather Anchor in the New York City Market. In addition, Brysen was nominated in 2008 and 2009 for an Emmy Award for Best Daytime Newscast. Brysen also received a NY Press Club Award for Best Daytime Newscast, for the Hudson Valley Daytime Edition.

Brysen holds the American Meteorological Society's Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal, which he obtained in October 2006.

Other previous accomplishments Brysen has made with the News 12 Networks include the development of the weather maps for News12.com, and News 12 Interactive's (Channel 612) weather section. For News 12 Interactive, Brysen has been nominated for numerous awards, including a New York City Emmy and a National Emmy.

Personal life[edit]

In his spare time, he enjoys golfing the public courses of Westchester and Rockland, hiking in Harriman State Park, and rooting for the Mets, Knicks and Giants. Brysen and his wife Lauren live in Airmont, along with their daughter Hannah, and son Keirnan.
