Buffalo 8 (est. 2010, Santa Monica, California) is an American entertainment production company.[1] They are most notable for creating and releasing Little Men, Land of Leopold, As You Are, and Rodney King.[2] They are also well known in teh entertainment industry for creating the film The Brits Are Coming from director James Oakley starring Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Sofia Vergara, Parker Posey and Stephen Fry.[3]

History[edit]

The company was founded in 2010 by Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor.[4]

2011 - 2014:

Following the production of The Alumni Chapter, Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor partnered together in Los Angeles in August 2011 embarking in to physical production of feature film and commercial projects underneath the Buffalo 8 banner. Between 2011 and 2014, Buffalo 8 operated primarily as a production services, post-production services and executive consultancy business in the feature film and digital media space. By the end 2014 Buffalo 8 had produced, line produced or executive produced 24 feature films including Sake Bomb which premiered at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, Land of Leopold which premiered at the 2015 Sun Valley Film Festival before selling to HBO Europe(3) and The Silent Thief which premiered at the GenArt Film Festival before selling to HBO. During this time Buffalo 8 also employed progressive marketing and growth tactics including the launching of an eBook series and followed up with a pair of experiential international destination workshops in partnership with ScreenCraft in the Bahamas and Sun Valley.

2014 - 2016

In January 2014 Helderman and Taylor launched BondIt, a media finance firm specializing in the senior secured financing largely shifting the focus of the Buffalo 8 operations to fewer projects and a greater focus on creative development for internal company projects.

In 2015 the company was joined by Patrick DePeters to helm the financial duties at both BondIt and Buffalo 8. Later the same year the company endeavored on it's two most critically acclaimed projects to date with Little Men from director Ira Sachs and starring Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Ehle premiering at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival before selling to Magnolia(6) and As You Are from director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte starring Charlie Heaton also premiering at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival before selling to Amazon.

In late 2015 the company partnered with manager-producer Steven Adams by acquiring his company Alta Entertainment and forming Buffalo 8 Management to offer a full service management division to writers, directors and performers(8).[5]

At the end of 2016 the company produced The Brits Are Coming from director James Oakley starring Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Sofia Vergara, Parker Posey and Stephen Fry.

2017

Following a late 2016 production, Buffalo 8 produced the Netflix original film Rodney King directed by Spike Lee and starring Buffalo 8 Management client Roger Guenveur Smith which was met with critical acclaim(11).

Additionally in early 2016 the team was joined by post-production producer Jonathan Sheldon to head the company efforts under the expanded B8 Post-Production unit.

Presently Buffalo 8 is focused on a select few internally developed projects while striving to provide world class services to clients worldwide through their B8 Services Division.[6]

•   B8 Development Services — providing production, packaging, financing and sales consultancy; headed by Jordan Garrett.

•   B8 Post-Production Services — providing top to bottom post production solutions from the company’s Hollywood post facility; headed by Jonathan Sheldon.

•   B8 Creative Services — providing design, commercial production and digital strategy for brands and projects; headed up by Jonathan Sheldon.
