The Buffalo Gasoline Motor Company of Buffalo, was a car, engine, and chassis parts manufacturer. [1]
History
The company was founded in 1899 with a share capital of US$ 25,000 by Louis Langen, L. Belle Conrad, and Louis A. Fisher. Until 1901, the company was limited to manufacturing engines. Entry into automobile production only occurred after supplying partially finished vehicles did not prove successful. In 1902, Buffalo Gasoline Motor Company introduced complete cars under the Buffalo brand name. Only three units were completed before the company was sued by the Electric Vehicle Company (E.V.C.) at the beginning of 1903. As the holder of the Selden patent, it monitored who was allowed to produce cars and ensured that royalties were paid.
In 1906, the law firm and inventor George Baldwin Selden, who had originally filed the patent and legally represented the Electric Vehicle Company (E.V.C.), took over the Buffalo Gasoline Motor Company. He wanted to build automobiles and commercial vehicles under his own name again and reorganized the company as the Selden Motor Vehicle Company in Rochester, New York. The advertising slogan “Father of All Patents” was very helpful for the young company. The first Selden vehicles were already delivered in June 1907.
After 1906, only engines continued to be produced. [2][3][4]
