Bugdroid

Bugdroid or The Bot (since 2024) is a mascot from Android on mobile phones and tablets since 23 September 2008 with its first appearance in Android 1.0 (released on the same day), it was recognised after the launch of the first version of Android. Its design is a green-coloured robot and rounded bodies parts

Origin and popularisation

Origin

Its origin was at 5 November 2007 during the development of Android 1.0, Bugdroid did not appear during the boot screen of HTC Dream during its development, it first appeared on 23 September 2008 alongside with Android 1.0, its second appearance was on Android 1.1 (released on 9 February 2009) and so on.

Popularisation

Its popularisation was taken around 2009 and 2010, however, in the US, the Bugdroid was popularised after the release of Motorola Droid (released on 17 October 2009), its globalisation took around 2010 and 2011 after the release of the first Galaxy S by Samsung.

Customised Bugdroids

After its popularity in 2011, around 2012-2014 Bugdroid is received many customisations of it any colours, sizes and more with Androidify, however. not every Bugdroid is customised.

After the release of Android 4.3 on 24 July 2013, Google added emojis for the first time, these emojis are Bugdroids in B/W, which are visible, but after the release of Android 4.4 on 31 October 2013, the emojis are redesigned to blobs and all related Bugdroid were gone, those blobs are coloured, most of customised launchers still had Bugdroid emojis until 5.1 on 2 March 2015, It did not reappeared with Gboard as of now.

"The Bot"

The name was "The Bot" at around 2024 when Google announced the name of the mascot for Android, it was now called "The Bot", but some users at the start criticised the name, be cause it can be named of "Bugdroid" instead. Some users accepted the new name, but many users still calls it "Bugdroid" in 2026.
