Built NY, also known as BUILT, is a design company based in New York City’s Flatiron District. BUILT produces lunch bags, totes, baby gear, and food & drink items. Founded in 2003 by Carter Weiss, Aaron Lown and John Roscoe Swartz,[1] the company was acquired in March 2014 by Lifetime Brands,[2] and is best known for its use of neoprene[3] (aka the wetsuit material) and its award-winning product designs. BUILT received the Gold award at Business Week’s International Design Excellence Awards in 2004 and 2005 for its Two Bottle Tote [4] and Lunch Tote designs respectively.[5] Despite the name, the company's products are manufactured primarily in China.[6]

BUILT is often cited for its efforts in intellectual property rights for small businesses and has over 180 patents and registrations in process, or issued, around the globe.[7][8]

Products and Designs[edit]

Since its first product launch, BUILT has expanded into reusable lunch totes, camera bags, and tech accessories, including sleeves and bags for laptops, iPhone, iPad, and Kindle. The company's products are regularly covered by high-profile media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, Real Simple, Time.com, DailyCandy, Fortune, and Inc., among others.

BUILT products are currently sold in more than 60 countries worldwide.
