History[edit]

BULGAR MAGAZINE

MVRS (Maximino, Victoria, Rainier Sison) Publications, Inc., entered the local media industry through the publication of Bulgar Magazine on

December 2, 1990[2]. The release of this magazine which was all about movies, celebrities, entertainment and showbiz gossip, had a printing order of 10,000 copies and had a cover price of Php10.00 only. Bulgar magazine had only 25 magazine dealers distributing in Metro Manila. This magazine was available only at magazine stands and was

not peddled by the newsboys like newspapers.

The high cost of printing magazines, particularly its colored covers, and the uncertain market for magazines forced MVRS to stop publishing but instead, to convert Bulgar magazine to Bulgar tabloid newspaper.

BULGAR TABLOID

Exactly after one year of Bulgar Magazine, the Bulgar tabloid[3] was introduced to the public on December 2, 1991. Bulgar tabloid’s cover price started Php 1.50 per copy with 8 pages coming out from Monday to Sunday.

However, Bulgar tabloid, with its widest circulation, had been acknowledged by the advertising agencies as an ideal print medium in reaching a wider mass base. As such, these advertisers/advertising agencies were the ones who approached Bulgar and offered their advertising businesses.

Consequently, Bulgar management agreed to allocate more spaces for advertisements, making Bulgar a 16-page tabloid. December 2005, management amended its policy of having no advertisement on the front page by agreeing to have a “footer advertisement (a two inch x 7 column banner ad) placed at the bottom of the front page.

This is actually a high cost ad which is contracted on a daily ads and on a yearly basis.
