Buried is an American true-crime documentary television series that was written and directed by Ari Pines and Yotam Guendelman. The series explores the story of Eileen Franklin, who in 1989 suddenly remembered that when she was eight years old, she had witnessed the murder of her best friend, Susan Nason, and that the murderer was Eileen's own father, George Franklin. After sharing this revelation with her husband, Barry, he contacted the San Mateo DA office, who decided to reopen the cold case 20 years after the murder took place. George Franklin was subsequently arrested and stood trial, in what became the first criminal case that was based on a recovered memory of the crime. The series follows the trial through its many twists and turns, as well as its repercussions on the way that the justice system, the mental health profession and society at large views memory and trauma. [1]
According to Metacritic, The series has received generally positive reviews.[2] The A.V. Club praised the series for being balanced, thorough and conscientious,[3] while The Daily Beast complimented the series' storytelling and visual language.[4]
