Burihati High School (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; EIIN 114509) is a government-approved secondary school located in the village of Burihati, Mirzapur, Tangail, Bangladesh.
The school's motto, Education is Power, reflects its goal to spread knowledge and moral values among students. It received MPO status in 2024.[1]
History
Burihati High School was established through the united efforts of the villagers of Burihati. The foundation of the institution reflects the community’s long-standing dedication to education and social progress.
In the mid-1980s, young boys and girls of Burihati used to play football on farmland, as there was no proper playground in the area. During that time, the local youth realised that the village needed not only sports but also organised efforts for education and social development.
On 15 November 1989, the Burihati Samrat and Ansar VDP Club was founded with the aim of uniting the village youth and promoting sports, social service, and education. Club members began with small initiatives — collecting donations, helping poor families, assisting in local events, and celebrating national days. Over time, they recognised the village’s greatest need was a permanent school, and the dream of establishing one began to take shape.
In 1997, the current head teacher, Mohammad Anowar Hossain, assistant teacher Md. Shamsul Alam, and other club members purchased land in the centre of the village. This became the permanent site of the school. With the support of the club and encouragement from the elders, construction began, and the land filling, foundation, and first classroom were completed through the collective efforts of the villagers.[2][independent source needed]
Several respected community leaders also played important roles during the establishment period. Among them, Mr. Mobarak Hossain (former Union Parishad Chairman) and Mr. Ekabbor Hossain (former Upazila Chairman and MP candidate) provided vital financial support, which helped the construction finish successfully.[3][independent source needed]
The opening ceremony was attended by village elders, teachers, local leaders, and several headmasters from neighbouring schools. Since its foundation, the school has become both an educational and cultural hub for the community. The names and photographs of the founding members are preserved in the headmaster’s office as a reminder of the unity and dedication behind the institution’s creation.
Today, Burihati High School stands as a proud example of determination, teamwork, and community spirit. It continues to spread the light of education and contribute to the development and prosperity of the area.

Academic activities
Students regularly participate in extracurricular activities such as debates, sports, cultural programmes, and science fairs. The school offers education from Class VI to Class X under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka.[7][8]

The school is situated in the southern part of Tangail, about 2 kilometres from Mirzapur town.
