Sievers specialises in cardiology, angiology, lipidology, hypertension and is located in Düsseldorf, Germany. He has further qualifications in interventional cardiology, angiology, heart failure and cardiovascular imaging using magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. As a professor of medicine, he teaches at the Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf in the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology and at the University Hospital of Cologne. He is also a lecturer in Health Management at the mibeg Institute Cologne.[1]

Education[edit]

After graduating from high school in 1988, Sievers studied at the University of Goettingen and the University of Muenster, where he also received his doctorate in 1995.

After graduation, he worked at several German and international university hospitals. He trained and worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital, Imperial College London, as well as the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, USA for several years. After his habilitation in 2007 at the University of Duisburg-Essen [2] he was appointed professor at the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf in 2011. Since 2013 he has been chief physician and chairman of the Medical Clinic I for Cardiology, Angiology, Pneumology, Nephrology and Intensive Care Medicine at Sana-Klinikum Remscheid, Germany and also has a private practice for Cardiology, Pneumology and Angiology [3] since 2018. In 2022, he founded the Gender Heart Center at Sana Klinikum Remscheid [4] and in the practice Cardiomed24 , the only Gender Heart Center in Germany so far. From 2013 to 2022 he organized the "Remscheider Ärztetag" as co-organizer, speaker and moderator [5].

Since 2019, he has run his own YouTube channel and podcast [6], under the name Sievers Sprechrunde , in which he discusses health policy and gender medicine topics. On the subject of gender medicine, he is a sought-after discussion and interview partner for radio, television and online portals.

In collaboration with the television host Laura Dahm, he has produced and published a talk series regarding various diseases, symptoms, diagnostics and therapies which may differ between women, men and other sexes. The aim of this being, to inform medical personnel and the general population about gender medicine, which remains underrepresented in Germany. Four important core facts characterize his motivation for gender medicine:

  1. Women die more frequently from cardiovascular diseases than men
  2. Women die more often from cardiovascular disease than from all cancers combined
  3. 70-80% of serious future diseases can be prevented or considerably delayed and their consequences mitigated by preventive examinations and care.
  4. Gender medicine does not only regard women. Men and those of a different gender, are also affected and often disadvantaged.

He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of the German Society for Gender-Specific Medicine [7] and a member of the Gender Medicine Working Group in the German Society for Cardiology. [8]

He underlines his commitment to health policy through his activities in the health committee of the district council of Rhein-Kreis Neuss [9] as well as through his membership in the Health Policy Working Group NRW [10]
