The World Conference on By-Products of Palm Trees and their Applications (ByPalma), is the only conference around the globe with a primary focus on the utilization of by-products of palm plantations..[1].The conference mainly focuses on rediscovering these by-products and creating an economical resource out of them, to benefit the local communities [2].
The conference was founded by Dr. Hamed El-Mously, Emeritus Professor at Ain Shams University, and Dr. Mohamad Midani Assistant Professor at the German University in Cairo.
The conference is not limited to scientific papers and talks, but also it invites artisans, industry professional, and craftsmen working with by-products of palm plantations to participate [3]. This include by-products of any type of palms including, date palm, oil palm, sugar palm, coconut palm, and doum palm.
ByPalma 2018
ByPalma 2018 was the first edition of this conference and it took place from the 15th – 17th of December 2018 in Aswan, Egypt. The first edition was organized by the Faculty of Engineering Ain Shams University, one of the prestigious engineering schools in the Middle East and a leader in date palm by-products research. The chairman of the conference is Dr. Hamed ELMously the first academician and scientist to investigate the utilization of date palm by-products in industrial applications, he has received numerous awards and recognition for his work that inspired several generations of scientists. The conference co-chairman was Dr. Mohamad Midani an expert in natural fiber composites and inventor of date palm midribs fibers.
The 1st round was a great success. With more than 250 attendees, from 94 research institutions, companies, NGOs and international organization, representing more than 30 countries[4].The technical program Included 7 plenary sessions, 6 discussion panels, 5 keynote talks, and poster session. In addition to other concurrent events such as, Palm By-Products Exhibition, Palm By-Products Photo Gallery, and the innovation contest[5]
ByPalma 2020
ByPalma 2020 will take place in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, December 15 -17, 2020. The host institution University Putra Malaysia (UPM) is a world-renowned center of learning and research, and home to the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP). INTROP focus on forest canopy management, bioresources valuation and sustainability, and sustainable utilization of biocomposite products[6]
