C. Marshall Dann (born March 27, 1915) was an American chemist, patent lawyer, and government official who served as head of the United States Patent Office from 1974 to 1977.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and career

Dann was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Science in chemistry from the University of Delaware, and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.[2]

Before entering government, Dann worked for DuPont for thirty-six years, beginning as a research chemist and later becoming chief patent counsel. The USPTO notes that he also was named as an inventor on a United States patent.[2]
