CLNZ/NZSA Research Grants
The CLNZ/NZSA Research Grants are made annually by CLNZ (Copyright Licensing New Zealand) and NZSA (The New Zealand Society of Authors). They are open to New Zealand writers of fiction and non-fiction, to assist with research for their writing projects.
History[edit]
The CLNZ/NZSA Research Grants are jointly administered by Copyright Licensing New Zealand (CLNZ) and the New Zealand Society of Authors (Pen NZ Inc) Te Puni Kaituhi o Aotearoa (NZSA).
The awards are intended to support New Zealand writers in their research. They provide funding and assistance for writers who are carrying out research for a fiction or non-fiction writing project. Funding for the grants comes from the CLNZ Cultural Fund, which gets its income from domestic licensing income and non-title-specific overseas income.[1][2]
In 2014, the awards were revamped to provide four awards each year.[3] They now consist of three Open Research Grants, with funding of $5,000, and one Stout Research Centre Grant, with funding of $5,000 and also a six-week fellowship at the Stout Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.[4]
Awards are made to writers of proven merit, and for projects of national or significant local interest or which add significantly to the field or genre on the subject.[4]
