The Canadian Society for the Advancement of Science in Public Policy (CSASPP) is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to advocate the development and advancement of science in public policy in British Columbia, as well as to challenge provincial COVID-19 measures and their constitutional implications.[1] CSASPP posits that the BC Government’s response to COVID-19 was excessive and resulted in an excessive amount of public harm. CSASPP filed a class action lawsuit in which it declares that government overreached its authority.[2]
History
CSASPP was incorporated on January 14, 2021 as a non-profit, non-partisan, secular, and volunteer-driven organisation. CSASPP filed a Notice of Civil Claim in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on January 26, 2021, naming the British Columbia Provincial Government and its Provincial Medical Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry as defendants. The legal action seeks remedy in the form of a court declaration that COVID-19 driven ministerial orders and public health orders be struck down on the grounds that they are "unreasonable".[3] CSASPP formed at the request of affected class members, organising their efforts and representing their voices.
Funding
CSASPP relies on the financial support of public donors.
