Cade Webber (born January 5, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey ice hockey defenseman for the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted originally by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2019 NHL entry draft.
Playing career
Juniors
Webber played Junior hockey for the Boston Junior Bruins in 2018. The following year, Webber committed to play junior hockey for the Penticton Vees where they would put up 5 points in 23 games played.[1] he was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 4th round of the NHL Draft.[2]
Collegiate
In 2019, Webber committed to Boston University.[3] However, the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delaying his debut until 2021. Once the NCAA season began, Webber served as a depth player for the Terriers, appearing in 14 of 16 games during his freshman season and recording 2 points. BU advanced to the NCAA tournament but fell to eventual runner-up St. Cloud State in the Regional Semifinals.
In his sophomore season, Webber scored 2 points as BU missed the NCAA tournament but captured the annual Beanpot title with a victory over Northeastern University. Over the next two seasons, he played 78 games, tallying 1 goal and 11 assists, serving as an assistant captain, and helping guide the Terriers to back-to-back Frozen Four appearances in the 2023 and 2024. BU lost to runner-up Minnesota in 2023 and champion Denver in 2024. Following his senior season with Terriers in 2023–24, he was awarded the Best Defensive Defenseman trophy as the best defensive defenseman in the Hockey East conference.[4]
Toronto Maple Leafs
On March 7th, 2024, the Hurricanes traded his rights to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a sixth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.[5] On April 18th, Webber and the Maple Leafs agreed to a 2-year entry-level contract ahead of the Maple Leafs playoff series game against the Boston Bruins.[6] On October 4th, Webber was assigned to the Toronto Marlies along with 14 other players to start the 2024-25 AHL season.[7] 3 days later, Webber would sign a two-year contract extension to stay with the Maple Leafs organization.[8]

Webber made his international debut for the United States at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament, where the team finished in fourth place. He skated in all five games and recorded two assists at the tournament.[9]
Personal life
Webber's father, Michael Webber, played hockey but stopped during high school because the school did not have a team. Cade Webber began playing when he was 2 years old, briefly discontinuing the practice until returning to the sport when he was 4 years old, playing it ever since.[10][11]
