Caisleáin Óir - The Musical is an adaptation, in English, of the Séamus Ó Grianna novel. It is a story of childhood romance and the pursuit of destiny set in rural Ireland during the late 19th century and early 20th century.
Development[edit]
Caisleáin Óir is a musical with music and lyrics by Leslie Long[1] and Kathleen Ruddy, and adapted for stage by Phil Dalton. It is an adaptation of the Irish language novel Caisleáin Óir by Séamus Ó Grianna. The musical itself is in English. The musical is set in the fictional area of Cloghan Dubh in Co Donegal at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The story follows Seimi Padraig Dubh and Babai Mhairtin Friel, as their lives are brought together and are separated by emigration, as was common in that era. [2]

In 2006, Caisleáin Óir won the Spirit of AIMS/Adjudicator's Special Award for the 2005 production.[7]
