Caktuz, born Adika Sator (August, 14, 1975), is an American artist spanning music, performance art, film, entrepreneurship, design, and community activism.
Career[edit]
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania and raised between Washington, D.C. & High Point, North Carolina, Caktuz painted murals on staging back drops for the Triad Reggae Sunsplash as a teen.[1] before moving to New York city to pursue his music in the early 2000s. His approach to hip-hop mixes a mosaic of sounds, from jazz and pop music to rap and rock n’ roll[2]. He has recorded and/or worked with artists Akon, Bilal, Kardinal Offishal, dead prez, & Boot Camp Clik[3]
In 2009 Caktuz became a protege to Melvin Van Peebles and illustrated the graphic novel adaption to his film "Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha" (Akashic Books 2009)[4][3]. In 2011 He was invited to perform at Liverpool Soundcity[5][6] sharing stages with many of Europe's top artist's such as Akala, Wretch 32, Lady Leshurr, & Ed Sheeran. In 2012 he released the single, Supahbaadddd! ft. Showdown, with We Build Hits/SONY RED[7][8], started by M.O.P.'s Billy Danze. In 2013 he released his 3rd studio project How To Dress Well For Suicide[9] as a free downloadable mobile app.
Other Ventures[edit]
Caktuz began working closely with iconic Go-Go bands Experience Unlimited (also known as simply E.U.), Trouble Funk, & Dj Kool as a documentary filmmaker[10] in 2016. He appeared in a string of pilots and indie efforts before landing his 1st national role on VH1's; The Breaks (TV series)[11][12]. Caktuz and his band, The Dopesh!te, perform a cover of The Junkyard Band's classic hit Sardines, produced by DJ Premiere.
In 2017 Caktuz released his 4th studio album as a 120 minute movie; “W A N D E R L U S T: A Musical Noir”. Shot and inspired by his life in High Point, the story follows a street hustler turned musician returning to his hometown that is engulfed with an ominous presence. "The music is mostly a character that drives the tone, the emotions, of the story,” Caktuz told the High Point Enterprise (2017). “In some parts there are total musical montages — in between, it’s dialogue.”[12]
