Conception and History[edit]
The Steel Queens concept was devised by Richard Gray (known by his nickname 'Rambo' in ice hockey circle). Richard Gray was a founding member of the Edinburgh Eagles University team and the Edinburgh Phoenix recreational team. He served both those clubs as a fixtures secretary, coach and manager. He is now the fixtures secretary, commentator and podcast host of the BUIHA. Gray was inspired to create a women's university team for Scotland after being impressed by the number of female players participating in the BUIHA at the 2017 National Championships. After gaining support from GB internationalist Beth Scoon plans were put in motion to begin recruiting players.
The club is officially considered to have been formed in January 2018, though they did have two taster sessions in late 2017[2]. In that time the club has competed at four BUIHA Nationals events in mixed and women's formats. They have yet to enter the BUIHA Cup Competition.
