Callan Murray

Callan Murray first made his mark in his home country of South Africa where he completed his five year apprenticeship at the South African Jockey Academy.[1] During that time he won the apprentice championship title in the 2015/16 season[2]. His greatest achievement came when riding three individual Grade 1 winners at the Champions Day race meeting at Turffontein Racecourse in May, 2017 aboard Deo Juvente (Premier's Champions Trophy), Rafeef (Computaform Sprint) and Mustaaqeem (SA Nursery). The 22 year old has achieved a total more than 300 wins to date.

Callan has ridden in South Africa, Australia, Zimbabwe and most recently Hong Kong, where he is currently based. His last Hong Kong stint for the Hong Kong Jockey Club[3] at the end of the 2016/17 season yielded four wins, including two at G3 level, the Sha Tin Vase[4] Handicap (Lucky Year) and the Premier Plate[5] Handicap (Horse Of Fortune).
